THE 9th DAY - Wisdom in Proverbs 7

My pick for today: Proverbs 7:21-23

"So she seduced him with her pretty speech. With her flattery she enticed him. He followed her at once, like an ox going to the slaughter or like a trapped stag, awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart. He was like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost him his life."

  • What turns your eye, makes you blind to the eventual dead end of a bad choice?
  • It might not be a woman or man who entices you. What shiny things "throw their arms around you?"
  • What words, looks, or even daily accomplishments trick you into that seductive death march?
Maybe God's inviting you to take this chapter and use it to pry open your eyes to see more clearly. It may be some completely "nice" and "harmless" object that you're misusing to medicate a painful part of your life. It could be a thing, person, activity, or thought. I've used work, peanut M&M's, exercise, reading, and lots of other things (really nice food) to numb out from a world that's not fair or perfect. If there was no pain, if our world was perfect, then why would we need heaven (a new earth recreated for us)? What do you need freedom from? It could be so small, so cute, so good, but if it's used for cover-ups or as one's primary source for feeling good, then it's really a trap.
